Light Centre revamped

Light Centre for Children with Disabilities was revamped by a local college recently.

Pastoral Psychology students from the Torah Based Healing College (TBH) recently gave a helping hand to Light Centre for Children with Disabilities.

“We donated a washing machine, a table and chairs, a medicine cupboard, toiletries and towels and colourful aprons for the staff,” said André du Toit from TBH.

New mattresses were donated.

Founded in February 2013, the Light Centre cares for children with disabilities between the ages of 18 months and 10 years. They aim to identify their potential and then refer them to special schools once they have reached school-going age.

Additionally, almost 30 children received new mattresses, linen and pillows.

“Beds and cots were repaired and the washing line and broken windows were replaced,” André said.

TBH also gives Light Centre’s voluntary care takers training twice a week. They will receive a certificate upon completion.

Glenny Marubini, founder of Light Centre said her centre tries its utmost best to give disabled children a better life but still needs the community’s help to make it more comfortable for them.

The TBH students chose Light Centre for their annual outreach project, which is part of their studies. This project was made possible by individual and business’ donations.

If you would like to get involved with Light Centre call them on 011 664 6016 or TBH on 072 270 9705.
