Eyewitness tells of hit-and-run accident

Eyewitness claims a driver of a silver Toyota was 100 per cent at fault in the accident that left a scooter driver dead.

A witness of the hit-and-run accident that left one dead over the weekend came forward about what he saw happening.

The driver of the scooter was transporting samples for Lancet Laboratories when he was hit by a vehicle, which sped off, on Paardekraal Drive on 2 October.

“Netcare 911 paramedics found the man lying in the road, critically injured. They stabilised and airlifted him with the Netcare 1 Helicopter to hospital,” Chris Botha, Netcare 911 media liaison officer said.

The driver of the scooter sadly passed away the next day due to the serious injuries sustained in the accident.

An eyewitness account sent to the News claims a silver Toyota Corolla was involved in the hit-and-run incident.

“I was about 20m behind the scooter when the accident happened. I was riding with him from Randburg and he was a good driver. I too was on a bike. He kept to the speed limit and the light was green for us. A silver Toyota Corolla (a newer model) skipped the traffic light and he crashed into the side of the scooter. The left side of the vehicle was badly damaged on the front and rear doors. The vehicle next to me and I had to slam on the brakes; his tyre marks are still visible in the left lane. Unfortunately no license plate of the Corolla was seen, but I do hope this information helps and the driver of the Corolla gets caught as he was 100 per cent at fault,” said Bradley Quirk.
