Mother upset with baby’s treatment at hospital

Unexplained red marks on a nine-month-old baby's back puts a local hospital in the spotlight again for the wrong reasons.

A mother of a nine-month-old baby, currently in Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital, believes her baby was neglected by the nurses after she discovered marks on her child’s back.

The baby was taken to the hospital for treatment of pneumonia late last week.

Amanda de Lange, a Freedom Front Plus councillor for Mogale City, visited the hospital over the weekend along with the mother and was outraged when they found the baby to be extremely hungry.

The nurses of the hospital refused to feed the baby with a bottle and allegedly feeds all the babies out of cups.

Their excuse to the mother when she asked if she could not bring a bottle was that no other babies use bottles there.

Furthermore, the mother is also not allowed to stay in hospital with her baby and is sent home each night.

Upon her arrival at the hospital on Saturday morning, the mother discovered unexplained red marks on her baby’s back.

“I will definitely investigate the hospital and other state hospitals. More and more similar incidents have come to light recently and it is not acceptable. Is neglect nursing to blame, or what is the problem?” De Lange, asked the News.

The News contacted the spokesperson of the hospital for comment regarding the incident.

The News was informed by the Clinic Manager, Dr Ugobor, that the spokesperson is on leave and suggested the News hold back the information until the spokesperson returns tomorrow.
