VIDEO: Man with multiple fractures airlifted after accident
Streets were blocked off as hundreds gathered to see a seriously injured man being airlifted.
Hundreds of residents gathered around an open field as a man was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.
It is believe the man, in his fifties, were crossing Van Riebeeck Street when he was hit by a white Toyota Land Cruiser at around 4.30pm yesterday afternoon (21 October).

The pedestrian allegedly did not see the vehicle when he crossed the road and was seriously injured by the impact.
Members from the Sector 5 Community Policing Forum were deployed to the scene at the Robert Broom Drive and Van Riebeeck Street intersection, who called ER24 paramedics for assistance.
After struggling for sometime to stabilise the injured pedestrian, an ER24 helicopter was deployed to airlift the patient to hospital for further medical care.
Bystanders on the scene told the News that the pedestrian looked like he obtained multiple fractures to his legs and may have injured his back and neck.

“Paramedics initiated advanced life support treatment in order to stabilise the man. ER24’s medical helicopter was called to airlift the pedestrian to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital. No one else was injured in the incident,” Werner Vermaak, ER24’s spokesperson said.
