Babies injured and one person dead in collision

The driver has since been arrested.

Over the weekend, a horrifying accident between a 22 seater bus and a bakkie led to 22 people being seriously injured – among them two babies.

All 22 passengers of the bus sustained injuries on Friday (6 November) and were taken to hospital. The two babies, one six months old and the other 18 months old, also received medical attention.

“It is alleged that the bus was travelling from Johannesburg to Rustenburg when it tried to over take other vehicles on a curve on the R24 between Tarlton and Orient Hills. It collided with a bakkie killing the driver of the bakkie instantly,” police spokesperson, Constable Lucky Matome, said.

The 37-year-old driver of the bus has since been arrested for reckless and/ or negligent driving and culpable homicide.

He is expected to appear before the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.
