Tails wag for Bismarck
After the 9th Day Animal Shelter rescued him, Bismarck is doing remarkably well.
Bismarck, the recovering bait dog that climbed into the hearts of many Krugersdorpers, is slowly but surely on the road to recovery and doing very well.
After 57 days, Bismarck’s bandage change showed that his puncture wounds, possibly from being used as a bait dog, is healing.
Charmaine Booysens, founder of the 9th Day Animal Rescue Centre, took Bismarck into her care after they found him dumped on a street corner in October. Yet today, he is showing signs of trust in human beings.
Bismarck is still at the Roodekruin Veterinary Clinic and it is not yet clear when he will be able to go home, even if it will be to the rescue centre.
“Every time I visit him I see a bit more of his personality,” Charmaine said.
“When Bismarck sat on my lap for the first time, I was overcome with emotions. This is one of the milestones of his recovery I will always remember.”
Charmiane said she is very happy that Bismarck has regained trust in humans after what he has been through. Mostly overcome with emotions, she still has an anger towards dog baiting and those who enforce it as a sport.
Bismarck, after spending over a month at the clinic, has developed a daily routine.
“As soon as his visit is over he chooses his own treat, after that he will have some water and then he is ready to go to his kennel,” Charmaine said.
And even though Bismarck is losing a bit of weight, Charmaine is not too worried. The battle is halfway won.
