Famous soccer coach inspires Smart Boys

Augusto assisted the youngsters with a coaching session, and to create some excitement for these boys who come from a less fortunate background.

World-famous soccer player and coach Augusto Palacios from Peru visited Glenburn Lodge & Spa as a guest of the Muldersdrift Business Woman’s Association (MBWA).

This year the MBWA adopted the Smart Boys from the Video Centre informal settlement where 40 soccer balls were donated to them during the course of the year, as they were playing with only one ball among a group of 40 boys.

Two young men in the area wanted to give back to their community and took it upon themselves to form soccer teams among the youngsters to keep them occupied and focused on achieving something worthwhile, as well as giving the youngsters something to look forward to each week, thus keeping them out of mischief.

Augusto was approached by the chairperson of MBWA, Laurice Matulovich to assist the youngsters with a coaching session, and to create some excitement for these boys who come from a less fortunate background.

Augusto and Laurice did the official hand-over of soccer kits on Saturday 14 November. He was assisted by other soccer coaches as well, all who gave up their time to assist in training the boys.

Afterwards the boys enjoyed some refreshments while checking out each others’ soccer gear and discussing their futures as Bafana Bafana players.
