Lanseria Airport growth great for the Drift

The recently completed upgrades and expansions at Lanseria International Airport mean more feet into Muldersdrift and the broader Cradle of Humankind area.

“This is a win for the many venues offering accommodation and conferencing facilities,” Trevor D’ Oliveira, business spokesperson for the Muldersdrift Communications Action Group (MCAG) said.

New developments at the airport include the extension of the drop-off zone as well as a resurfacing of the ring road, which benefits airport tenants particularly. The next phase, due to be completed in the coming months, includes upgrades and extensions to the international terminal so it can accommodate more international and regional flights. A new traffic control tower and emergency services centre also are being built. The plan for 2016 includes possibly building a multi-storey parking area.

“As the airport develops and expands, there is more traffic into the area, especially corporates looking for venues that can accommodate conferences. The airport offers easy access for local and international delegates who fly in for a limited time, conference in the area and fly out again. It also supports the burgeoning residential growth seen in the area in recent years driven by numerous upmarket and middle market residential developments,” he said.

This investment supports the notion that the West Rand, and more specifically Muldersdrift, is currently one of the fastest, high-income growth nodes in Gauteng. The area is attracting significant commercial and leisure development to capitalise on residential and commercial enterprises.

“We welcome these upgrades and look forward to seeing the completed projects in the next few months,” concludes D’ Oliveira.
