[VIDEO] Who were those street musicians?
A mysterious band played next to Robert Broom Drive on Friday. Who were they?
“Did I leave my radio on? What’s that rocking noise?”
Out of the corner of your eye you spot a bakkie with a few guys on it, slamming away on their instruments.
The noise, you realised, was a live band next to the road.
Last week Friday (27 November) a group of musicians unpacked their instruments next to Robert Broom Drive and simply started playing next to the road.
At about noon, the band from Smith and Trump Music and Arts Collective decided to approach marketing a bit differently by playing live in the street.
Cars drove by, applauding the drums and electric guitar players. Curious eyes also held up traffic a bit.
“We are creating awareness not only for the business, but also for music in general,” Mark Trump, a member of the band, told the News.
About an hour later, after the sun crisped a layer of skin, the band decide to turn off the generator and seek refuge under a covered area. Below the colourful over-sized glasses and glittery hats, the band’s T-shirts read something interesting: “Music is better than drugs.”

Mark explained that many of his students sometimes have drug related problems and when they turn to music, their priorities turn as well.
“We want to create awareness for drug abuse and tell people that music is a way out,” he said.
