Netcare Pinehaven Hospital is proud to welcome the newest edition to their family, a baby expert.
Dr Lerato Langa-Mlombo has once again made Krugersdorp her medical home and recently opened the doors to her new practice at the hospital.
She wears the belt of Obstetrician and Gynecologist and is no stranger to Krugersdorp as she practiced in the area from 2007 to 2013 at the Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital.
But this time around she returned as a fetal medical specialist which will bear many fruits to the community with her newest qualifications.
The testing for Down Syndrome in unborn babies is one of her specialties as one in a 1 000 women at the age of 25 are at risk of giving birth to a Down Syndrome baby.
According to Lerato, the risk is higher in late pregnancies especially at the age of 35 where one in 270 woman stand to risk.
“It is important for every pregnant woman to have the necessary tests done for the health of her unborn baby. There are many factors that play a role in the health of the unborn child such as the age of the mother and her medical history,” Lerato explained.
Other tests she specialises in includes Edward and Patau Syndrome which can be diagnosed within the first trimester of pregnancy.
“I love working with the sonar machine since I spent a lot of time in the sonar room at Krugersdorp Private. I became more interested in unborn babies when I experienced that pregnant woman would be referred from doctor to doctor for tests and ultimately putting the baby at risk.”
With more experience and a love for babies, Lerato is looking forward to help deliver many future residents of Krugersdorp at her new practice.
