Safety tips police want businesses to know

Are you being extra alert over the festive season?

The Muldersdrift police has issued a few safety tips for businesses this festive season.

Warrant Officer Hitler Ngwenya emphasised that shops should keep a minimum amount of cash on hand, among other tips:

• There should be highly visible signs in your store that cash is kept to a minimum,

• Set a minimum amount of cash that should be available in the tills and try not to exceed this amount,

• If the store become especially busy, the tills need to be checked ever more regularly,

• Remove excess cash from the till and secure the money in a secure safe that is not accessible to the public,

• Do not count money on the service counter,

• Vary your banking times,

• Make sure it is not obvious that you are about to bank a large sum of money,

• Make sure your store is not overcrowded. But if it is, be extra vigilant,

• If you have a firearms, make sure it is placed in a safe,

• Be alert when you open and close your store;

• Try to work in pairs, and not alone.

Finally, Ngwenya wishes the community a Merry Christmas and a safe new year.
