Grenades and guns found by police

Police found unlicensed firearms and even grenades carried by suspected criminals.

Police were rather busy throughout the festive season trying to apprehend firearms and live ammunition.

In Kagiso a 38-year-old man was arrested on 30 December for being in possession of explosives, an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Members of the Krugersdorp Cluster Trio Task team and Crime Intelligence arrested the man while conducting information-driven search.

“A thorough search of the man’s home resulted in the recovery of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and a hand grenade. The suspect was arrested and the exhibits were confiscated,” said Krugersdorp Cluster police spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst.

The police’s explosives unit removed the hand grenade and the suspect was taken to the Kagiso police station.

In Magaliesburg on 29 December a 25-year-old man was also arrested for being in possession of ammunition. He was arrested by a member of the Crime Prevention team in Magaliesburg.

“The police officers were conducting routine patrols in the location when they stopped and searched the suspect. During their search they found four rounds of ammunition in his possession and when the police interrogated him, he said that it was picked up next to the road,” said Magaliesburg police spokesperson, Constable Rebecca Phithi.

The suspect will soon appear in court, facing a charge of unlawful possession of ammunition.
