Motorists move, protesters coming through

Munsieville protesters on their way to Town Hall.

Motorists are urged to avoid Commissioner Street as protesters are making their way to Town Hall.

Members from the Krugersdorp police, local Community Policing Forum (CPF) and Disaster Management have been deployed to Van Riebeeck Road where thousands of residents from Munsieville are marching to Town Hall.

It is believed the protesters are marching because of their ongoing fight for free electricity.

They are expected to turn right into Commissioner Street where they will go to Town Hall to plead their case.

Motorist should take an alternative route as protesters have taken over the streets.

It has been confirmed by witnesses that the protesters are armed with various objects including panga’s, sticks and other dangerous objects.

They also burned a tyre on the corner of Commissioner Street and Van Riebeeck Street before marching past the police station.

Residents and motorists are urged to avoid the area until the march has been cleared up.

This is the second protest in Krugersdorp, following the protest action in Chamdor earlier this week.
