R10 000 reward offered for missing cat
A reward is being offered for the any information or the safe return of a beloved office cat.
Sonja Maricevic, director for Acana Pet Foods, is asking the public to be on the lookout for her beloved office cat that went missing on 14 January.
A R10 000 reward is being offered for information leading to the safe return of the missing cat that hitched a ride in delivery vehicle’s wheel well.
Sonja said at first, two of her three rescue cats went missing, but one has since returned.
CCTV footage revealed that the two cats climbed into the wheel well of the delivery vehicle, which then left the office a few minutes later.
“I am so grateful that we have found our black cat, Chicken, unharmed but my heart is still broken about our black and brown tortoiseshell cat, Babbaganoush,” Sonja said.
She asked residents of Strydom Park, Randburg, Blairgowrie, Craighall Park, Oaklands, Orange Grove, Krugersdorp and Cosmo City to be on the lookout, as these are all the areas the delivery truck visited on that day.
Babbaganoush is an eight-year-old female tortoiseshell cat, black and brown colouring with a black face.
Although she is micro chipped, Babbaganoush wasn’t wearing a collar at the time of her disappearance.
Maricevic says that she is easily frightened and living on the streets would be very stressful for her.
The company thought both cats must have jumped out at the truck’s first stop in Strydom Park and originally focused their search efforts in that area.
A tortoiseshell cat was spotted a number of times in the area and after a week, Sonja managed to catch it in a feral cat trap, but sadly it was not Babbaganoush.
“Babbaganoush is a family member at the office and is very loved. She was rescued from Kitty Shelter in Rosebank. We have two other cats at the office. Our black cat, Chicken, was also rescued from Kitty Shelter at the same time. The other cats miss their office buddy and want her back. She is part of our family and we want her back.”
Sonja asks that people do not just try to catch every tortoiseshell cat that they see, but to rather to call 083 449 5409 or even send a picture via WhatsApp.
