20 000 litres by 20 February

A local pupil decided to also help Operation Hydrate by starting to collect water for drought relief.

The recent drought that had farmers and animals suffer at the hands of a water crises, inspired a little girl from Alma Mater Akademie to help.

Annemique Janse van Vuuren, along with her parents and school, came up with the #almawater2016 project with the goal of collecting 20 000 litres of water by 20 February.

“So far, I have 150 litres,” Annnemique said. This was donated by her supportive granny.

The 10-year-old Alma Mater pupil is supported by Operation Hydrate, a community initiative started by group of volunteers after a response to calls for water from Senekal. The water will be transported by the members of the initiative.

“Annemique was devastated to see how the animals are suffering in the Free State and Western Cape,” the young Samaritan’s father told the News.

“She is determined to help make a difference and bring relief to those affected by the drought.”

If you would like to help Annemique collect 20 000 litres of water before 20 February, contact Alma Mater Akademie on 011 660 7567.
