Stepfather arrested for raping child

An eigh-year-old told her mother how her stepfather raped her last year.

A 40-year-old suspect was arrested earlier this week after police followed up on a complaint of a minor being raped.

The arrest follows after the mother of an eight-year-old girl opened a case of rape at the Kagiso Police station on 29 January.

The mother alleged that she was at her home with her crying daughter who would not talk about what had upset her.

“The complainant continued to question her daughter’s behaviour until she agreed that there was indeed something wrong,” Kagiso Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer, Solomon Sibiya explained.

The girl told her mother that her stepfather had tried to rape her before she arrived home the previous night.

“She also later revealed that the suspect had raped her during October and December 2015.”

The matter was reported to the police who immediately launched an investigation that led to the arrest of the 40-year-old suspect.

He was detained at the Kagiso police station where a case docket of rape was registered.

The suspect appeared briefly in court on 5 February.
