Dishes taking them around the world
A Braai Masters contestant was a judge for a day at a recent local food competition.
Get out of the office and get your braai on.
Real estate agents were challenged to take off their seller hats and try their hand at cooking an international dish.
This was what the Around the World in 18 Dishes competition between the West Rand’s estate agents was all about. Allen Ridley, a South African Braai Masters contestant, was the judge.
“Over 200 agents partook in the competition in which each agency was given a country to represent in true Masterchef style. The day was all about cooking, dressing up and team spirit,” said Sharon Venter, the Betterlife area sales manager.
Allen, who was also the host for the day, said he was very excited to test the different dishes. From Spanish patatas to Japanese sushi, food was indeed abound.

But Allen was not only to judge the taste of the dish, but also the cooks’ attire and table design.
One team made a traditional South African pap-en-vleis meal with boerewors, which Allen was all too glad to judge.
“The perfect boerewors definitely should not be cooked dry. It shouldn’t taste like droëwors,” he laughed.
“It should be juicy and spices like coriander, pepper and onion can be used moderately.”
The winners of the competition walked away with a R1 000 mall voucher and a picnic set, among others.
