Unroadworthy truck leaves officers flabbergasted

This truck is most probably the most unroadworthy truck seen on a Krugersdorp road in a while.

Traffic officers were left speechless after pulling over a 16-wheel truck in West Village which was in an appalling condition.

An joint venture between the Gauteng Traffic Department and the Mogale City Traffic Department yesterday, 8 March, saw the owner of the truck being fined for having one of the most unroadworthy trucks the officers witnessed in a long time.

A Gauteng Traffic officer noticed the truck driving towards West Village yesterday when he pulled over the driver to do a routine inspection.

Upon the inspection the officer noticed the horrific state of the truck and requested the driver to take the truck to the Mogale City License Department for a full inspection.

The truck was not only unroadworthy, but officers also discovered that the truck’s trailer license had expired last year in February.

Less than a handful of the truck’s 16 tyres were properly threaded and roadworthy.

The other tyres are either worn, with the wire sticking out or the rubber literately peeling off.

The officer also noticed the air pillows for the brake system are completely ruptured and the handbrake is faulty.

Other faults found on the truck included the truck’s kingpins as well as the worn steering mechanism.

The News witnessed the truck driver unable to properly brake when he was instructed to park on the weigh bridge.

Here the officers determined that the truck was overloaded by five-and-a-half tons.

The owner of the company was contacted and told the News that the truck is only used as a construction vehicle and at that very moment the officers pulled it over, the driver was crossing the road while on his way to another construction site.

The owner received multiple fines and said that he takes full responsibility for the unroadworthy truck and that he will face the consequences, and he commended the traffic department for only doing their job.

He also said that he will renovate his construction vehicles to avoid any further prosecution.
