A one-year-old baby boy was electrocuted to death at his home in Muldersdrift over the weekend.
The child was allegedly under a nanny’s supervision while his parents were at work at the time of the incident on 19 March at 8.30am.
“The one-year-old boy was playing outside next to his home in Diswilmar in Muldersdrift when he was electrocuted by a cable that was lying on the ground uncovered,” Muldersdrift Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Hitler Ngwenya said.
The child was taken to the Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital with burn wounds on his upper body and was certified dead on arrival.
An inquest case docket was registered with Muldersdrift Police for further investigation.
No arrests have yet been made.
“The acting station commander, Captain Boetie David Phiri advised members of the public to report any electrical wires that are uncovered to Eskom. He further indicated that as we are approaching the festive season and children are also on school holidays parents are advised to look after their children and not to leave them unattended,” Ngwenya concluded.
