Street vendor spreads his wings with model airplanes
Mike is not your everyday street hawker, but rather a street artist who uses traffic intersections to exhibit his craft.
Meet your not-the-usual street vendor, Mike Hayman, also known as the airplane man.
He is a talented artist who specialises in creating model airplanes from unusual materials and sells it on the street corners of Krugersdorp.
Mike turned his model hobby into a street business in 2013 when he decided to start selling his creations at traffic intersections as he could not afford to open a shop.

He told the News that his main inspiration is planes and he makes the models by looking at pictures of different makes.
The prices of the planes varies from size to size and the amount of material used.
He uses wire to build the structures, cardboard for the body and plastic bottles for windows and bottle caps and cans for the trims to make up these unique creations.
His helicopters are the biggest he has built and is sold for R700.
Mike, who is currently standing at the Voortrekker Road and Paardekraal Drive intersection across Key West Shopping Center, says he can build any design on demand.
If he is not there, you are bound to find him at the Pinehaven intersection where he has been trading from for the past couple of months.
When the News asked him about the high temperatures he has to endure while selling on the street, he simply smiled and said,”It’s hot too much”.
