Woman dragged in bushes and raped

A night out at a tavern ended bad after a woman was allegedly raped on her way home.

A 23-year-old male was arrested for rape over the weekend.

The arrest follows after the victim, who was at a local tavern in Smokedown Informal settlement the night before, lodged a complaint at the local police.

“In the early hours of Sunday morning, 24 April, the victim decided to go home and as she was walking home she was grabbed from behind by the suspect, who threatened her with a sharp object,” Tarlton Police spokesperson, Constable Lucky Matome said.

It is believed the suspect ordered the victim to undress herself after he took her to the nearby bushes where he allegedly raped her repeatedly.

The victim sustained cuts on her right hand due to the scuffle between the two of them.

The suspect was later arrested and he is expected to appear before in court facing rape charges.
