Curro's mini chefs cook up success

Young aspiring chefs face surprise ingredients and high-pressure challenges in the school's inaugural cooking competition.

Curro Krugersdorp learners demonstrated their creativity, courage, and culinary skills during the school’s first-ever Mini Chef Cook-Off.

The competition began on September 19, when six aspiring chefs earned their place in the first round. Tasked with creating their own juicy gourmet burgers, the learners had to work with a variety of ingredients while navigating surprise twist ingredients that tested their creativity and problem-solving abilities.

Jean Kirton (consumer studies teacher and adjudicator) and Yara Bode.

Curro executive head Annemarie Lombard said the competition forms part of the school’s commitment to providing learners with opportunities to develop practical skills, confidence, and creativity beyond the classroom.

Gourmet challenge tests patience and precision

The final challenge on October 10 tested much more than baking skills. It required patience, precision, attention to detail, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. From perfectly mixed batter to expertly piped icing, the finalists impressed judges with their determination and growing culinary confidence.
