[VIDEO] Sick owl out of the woods
Mia the owl is making good progress after being rescued in Krugersdorp.
It would seem that Mia, the Dancing Queen owl, will very soon be able to fly freely again after she was rescued on a plot in Krugersdorp over a week ago.
The Spotted Eagle Owl was found in a dire state on a resident’s plot on 1 May.
After the resident asked for advice on Facebook, the community jumped in with advice and a few hours later Mia was taken in by the Wildlife in Crises crew.
“A week later, and the owl has started eating a fair amount of cut up solid food, while still being tube fed,” Vanessa Davis from Wildlife in Crises said.
It would also seem that residents might have gotten it wrong when they named the owl, because the dancing queen is actually a dancing king.
Although he may still look a little dopey, with his very watery eyes along with his two heavy and puffy eyelids, he has made a remarkably great recovery in such a short time frame.
“There is still a lot of light sensitivity, so he is being kept in a fairly dark area, but hey, we are nearly there,” Vanessa’s update on Facebook read.
The good news is that he is also responding well to tracking movement which means that there is no long term damage to either of his eyes.
If all goes well, Mia the Dancing King may possibly be released closer to the end of the year.
