Help CPF fight crime

The voluntary membership forum needs the community's support to be the eyes and ears of the police.

Late night calls, patrolling streets, and serving their community is what the voluntary Community Policing Forum (CPF) is known for, and now it needs your help to fight an even stronger battle against crime in your area.

Sector 3′s CPF needs your help to install security cameras in the various neighbourhoods within the sector to help curb crime and catch perpetrators.

According to Piet Sparks, the sector’s chairperson, not only do the first-aid volunteers need to replenish their first-aid bags, but a Night Sight camera also needs to be purchased to help patrollers locate criminals that escape into the dark of the night.

“The Sector 3 CPF is the eyes and ears of the police in Quellerie Park, Krugersdrop North, Dan Pienaarville, Rant-en-Dal and Chancliff. We are in desperate need of funds to assist us to ensure a safe and crime-free area. Everything we do is on a voluntary basis,” he said.

The sector is therefore planning a fund-raising Golf Day on 2 August.

The Golf Day will be held at the Krugersdorp Golf Course and a dinner will be included in the 4-ball Better Ball Stableford match. There will also be advertising opportunities on the day.

“We want to join hands with the community and local businesses to ensure a safer environment,” said Wilma Nel, the sector’s secretary.

“The different CPF sectors can work more closely together if cameras are installed throughout the neighbourhoods.”

CPF Sector 7 has already installed various cameras which have proven to be successful in the fight against crime in the neighbourhoods they patrol.

A single high-quality security camera can cost thousands of rands, but the CPF believes that they’ll enable the forum to fight crime more proactively.
