Florence who? Katie and Usula set the nursing benchmark
Luipaardsvlei Home for the Elderly thanks their two Florence Nightingale nurses on Nurses Day.
Sisters Katie Coetzee and Ursula Laubsher are two stalwarts who are true to Florence Nightingale’s vision of nursing at the Luipaardsvlei Home for the Elderly.
The pair were both matrons in large hospitals prior to their retirement and reappointment at the old age home.
Katie and Ursula are both over 70 years old, but remain staunch nurses with incalculable experience and knowledge.
Sister Katie has done extensive research in the field of Alzheimer’s disease and is currently in charge of the dementia unit at the home. She has built up the entire section, from its foundation to today’s upscale unit, where 33 patients with dementia-related illnesses will be cared for soon.
“She is 75 years old, but has more energy than many others and still works with more vigour than any young nurse,” Amy de Bruin of the home said.
They are both always prepared to go the extra mile and the residents and staff are their first priority.
“A big thank you is due to all the dedicated nursing personnel in our nine Homes for the Elderly,” Amy concluded.
