Little girls photographed by stranger at mall

Parents are outraged after catching a stranger taking pictures of their little girls in a local centre's play area.

Parents are warned to be extra vigilant after a Sunday afternoon outing for a couple and their children at a local mall turned sour.

Zann du Plessis and her husband took their children to a local shopping center’s play area for some fun family time when another child in the play area alerted her parents of a suspicious man with a cell phone.

At some point Du Plessis’ husband noticed another little girl get off a play horse and run to her parents.

She informed her parents about the man standing nearby taking photos of them.

The father approached the man and asked why he was taking photos, of which he first denied and later said that he will delete the photos.

He then grabbed the stranger’s phone from his hand where after he made a shocking discovery.

On the phone was about four pictures of his daughter and the Du Plessis’ daughters too.

Security was called to the play area and the parents insisted that the man be taken to the control room and police be called in to assist.

The stranger said, afterwards, he was taking photos of the play area to show to his children.

“This is alarming as the photos weren’t taken of the play area but of the children’s faces. This is sick, really sick,” Du Plessis said.

When police arrived at the center, the stranger was apprehended and the parents followed them to the station.

Although the parents opened a case against the stranger, police could not arrest or keep the man in custody as he had not committed a crime.

The News contacted the management of the center for comment regarding the incident.

Key West Shopping Centre can confirm that an incident did occur in the KidZone on Sunday, 22 May. Fidelity Security Services assisted and handed the matter over to the police for further investigation. Currently we are waiting for the investigation details. Safety of all patrons is, and always remains, the centre’s top priority and we will continue to remain alert,” the centre’s Marketing Manager, Michelle Papastefanou said.
