Son finds mom bludgeoned to death

A 16-year-old found his mother lying on the floor of her bedroom.

A woman has died after allegedly being severely beaten at her home in Dalinyebo Street, Munsieville.

Netcare 911 spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, said paramedics were called to the scene by a neighbour at about 4pm on 24 May.

The 46-year-old victim, Mpho Quntso, was “found with extensive injuries to her body and declared dead on scene by a paramedic”, according to DA Proportional Representative (PR) ward councillor, Benjamin Siane.

Siane, who had called the police and the paramedics, told the News that the family suspects she was murdered at about 8am, soon after her 16-year-old son left for school. Upon his return, he found his mother lying on a blanket with a bloodied nose and a cracked skull.

“His father also passed a few years ago, but at least he has aunts and uncles who still care for him,” Siane added.

A sense of sadness hung over the quiet, neighbourly Dalinyabo Street when the News met with the family the following day. The family had lit a candle in the room where Quntso was found.

She leaves behind a sister, two brothers, a partner and a son.

Police spokesperson, Constable Lucky Matome, confirmed that Krugersdorp police are investigating a case of murder.
