Deo Gloria House received a sponsorship for their leaky roof, but almost lost it the day before repairs were to commence.

After battling for months with a leaking roof, Deo Gloria House, a non-profit organisation in Krugersdorp, has finally had its prayers answered.

Sika South Africa stepped in and agreed to sponsor the repair of the roof, which is estimated to cost approximately R45 000.

Deo Gloria House provides meals to approximately 500 children a week, in addition to supplying the elderly with food parcels, and needs a warm, dry place to achieve this.

Their hall, which serves as a dining hall, office and event venue, is where this all takes place. Unfortunately, this sanctuary has become cold and damp, and with winter approaching, something needed to be done as soon as possible.

Franco Laubscher, the driving force behind this project, says that people deserve a warm place to turn to, regardless of their social standing, and with the help of local businesses, non-profit organisations are able to do exactly that.

Franco managed to grab the attention of Brogan Smith, a sales representative at Sika, and they soon reached an agreement on the repair of the roof, which took place on Friday, 3 June.

The project hit a major stumbling-block, however, and almost came to an end on Thursday, the day before the repairs were to be done – the preparatory sanding down and removal of the old tar off the roof began to look like a never-ending task. Thankfully, the team was able to get the sanding done in time and Sika could come through and complete the repairs.

“When I first read Franco’s email I knew that this was something we needed to do, as the company is passionate about getting involved with non-profit organisations,” said Brogan, who went on to say “Sika International is actively involved with the Smile Fund, which helps children born with cleft palates get the treatment that they need to lead a normal life.”

“I would like to thank Sika for this incredible donation, and I urge other local businesses to do the same in order to build our community,” Franco said.
