19-year-old starts music production company

'I remember being in Grade 1 and telling my mom that I wanted to be a famous singer and change the world, one song at a time, when I got older.'

From an early age, Luthando Rodolo has been fascinated by music, and involved in many talent shows and festivals.

In 2010, he discovered his love for music production and set out to learn as much as he possibly could. He enrolled at Swallow 15 Music School to sharpen his skills as a musician and songwriter, and also learned a bit about the business side of things. He is now studying Audio Technology at the Academy of Sound Engineering in Johannesburg.

While still in high school in 2012, Luthando and his team started a business called StreetJam. In 2013, they decided to reinvent their business and became Street Evolution Entertainment. They founded the company on the premise of creating opportunities, and that is exactly what they set out to achieve.

“Instead of employing recognised photographers, music producers, videographers and so forth, we seek out people with skills and knowledge, and then partner with them to create their own businesses and make their services available to us. This, we believe, is conducive to creating a strong network within the business and paving the way for a brighter and more competitive industry,” Luthando said.

However, the journey towards success is challenging, as their ideas grow every day, and keeping up with them can be difficult. This is the case with many businesses – it’s what keeps them growing, so the Street Evolution Entertainment team welcome challenge as it keeps them on the ball.

Luthando has the following advice for young people regarding overcoming challenges: “It happens too often that people abandon their dreams due to circumstance or because of what others believe is wrong or not wise. I nearly let this happen to me – because I was often told to get my head out of the clouds.

“If I had listened to those people, I would not be where I am today. So I urge the youth to dream, to hold on tightly to those dreams, and make them reality. It’s amazing what you can do if you just believe, and if young people believe in the greatness of their dreams, then there is no doubt that the future of South Africa is in good hands. It all begins with you”.
