Goodbye Krugersdorp, hello Drakensberg Boys’ Choir

An educational tour to the Drakensberg saw one of the pupils being selected to join the prestigious Drakensberg Boys’ Choir.
In April, a group of pupils from Paardekraal Primary had the opportunity go to the Drakensberg with two of their teachers.
While visiting Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School, the boys were given the opportunity to audition for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Three ambitious boys asked Lizette van der Merwe and Dawie Breedt if they could audition, and one of them took them by surprise with his beautiful voice. Tlhatlhoso Khunoeng, a Grade 7 pupil, was promptly invited to a second audition.
On 13 June, the ecstatic mother of the 12-year-old boy informed Paardekraal Primary that he had been accepted into the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School for Grade 8 in 2017.
“We didn’t even know about his amazing hidden talent,” said the deputy principal, Lizette van der Merwe.
Tlhatlhoso doesn’t only have a beautiful voice – he is also a school monitor and academically strong.
Both Lizette and the school principal, Hennie Bester, are extremely proud of Tlhatlhoso’s achievement and wish him all the best in his new adventure.
