Over 200 teddies for Project Hope
The hundreds of mini hockey players of the Khosa Club gathered more than 200 teddies for Project Hope.
Over 200 stuffed animal toys were collected from the hockey players of the Khosa Mini Hockey Club for the police’s Child Protection Week campaign.
Captain Peet du Toit from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (the FCS Unit) at Krugersdorp SAPS initiated the collection, and said that he is so grateful for each and every player’s contribution.
“No matter how small the gesture, this stuffed animal toy might be worthless to some children, but it is going to mean the world to another, less fortunate, child in need,” Peet said.
The nine black bags full of toys were handed over to Betty Nkobane from Project Hope in Munsieville. Project Hope UK facilitates The Thoughtful Path initiative currently taking place in Munsieville.
Far more than just a charity project, The Thoughtful Path is a way of life, a new way of thinking, and a fresh look at the way charities work with communities. It is Project Hope’s flagship project, designed to engage an entire community and enable its most vulnerable children to grow into healthy, productive adults.
The Thoughtful Path is constructed on a set of values that place children first, along with a belief that for us to do something for people that they could do for themselves, is to do them harm, by eroding their capacity to act for themselves. Project Hope works with communities, giving them a hand up, and never a handout.
The concept is being demonstrated in Munsieville, said to be South Africa’s oldest undeveloped township, and the childhood home of our Patron, Archbishop Emeritus, Desmond Tutu. Set up in 2010, the ten-year project is operated by seven community-based action ‘hubs’ with the aim of establishing an influential and sustainable model of excellence in comprehensive support for orphans and other vulnerable children.
The theme for Child Protection Week, which saw many local initiatives take place throughout Krugersdorp, was ‘Walk with my Child’.
