A walk to help others walk
Paul Steyn is walking 7 000 kilometres to raise funds for disadvantaged amputees.
Paul Steyn, the founder of the Paul Steyn Foundation, is walking 7 000 kilometres through South Africa to raise funds for amputees who cannot afford prosthetic devices.
He will be in Krugersdorp for two days before heading off to Magaliesburg.
Paul started his journey on 3 August last year, at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, and has walked over 4 300 kilometres so far. He is walking unassisted as he was unable to obtain support vehicle sponsorship. All his necessities are in a wagon that he is pulling. He has already been able to assist three amputees during this walk, and is currently raising funds for a fourth person.

A prosthetic leg costs about R60 000, which most amputees cannot afford, and this is where the Foundation steps in. It has assisted 13 people since its establishment in 2012.
Paul is due to arrive in Krugersdorp this afternoon, where he will collect his next batch of water at Oasis Water. The company has been sponsoring his water for the trip. Given the length of Paul’s journey, and the weight of water, he’s unable to carry all his water at once, so he stops at the Oasis franchises along his route to collect more.
