Chris du Plessis, one of the people who live between this stretch of road, says the after math of the accident on 9 May was not a sight that you would like to see next to your gate.

The body of one of the children involved in the accident was found lying in front of his gate, while the foot of the other child lay not too far away. This was the first of two accidents in three weeks.

Chris, and other members of the community who wish to remain anonymous, say that the local government needs to do something in order to prevent these accidents from taking place. They suggest putting a speed bump or stop street at the First Street crossing, just before the corner that has caused so many accidents.

The News spoke to Andre Botes, Manager of Roads and Surface Drainage in Mogale City about this. He says that it is not advisable to put up a speed bump or stop street on Robert Broom, as this is a busy road, and is often utilised by emergency services. Putting up a bump will slow down the reaction time during an emergency.

He has, however, confirmed that a rehabilitation project is underway to improve Robert Broom, with phase one set to start in July.
