National taxi strike to hit the West Rand

Be prepared for a national taxi strike.

The News has been informed about a looming taxi strike, scheduled to happen on Monday, 4 July.

In a typed document which was circulated among commuters, The Greater Krugersdorp Taxi Association (GKTA) gave an alert about their impending protest.

Ralph Jones, the General Secretary of the South African Taxi Association in Gauteng (Santaco) confirmed the strike and stressed the fact that it is a national strike. This means no taxis will be running in Gauteng on Monday.

“The strike will last the entire day,” Jones told the News.

According to trusted sources, taxi drivers are protesting because of permit requirements and traffic police restrictions.

Jones said that GKTA will be part of the strike. On the document which warns of the strike, the GKTA urged commuters to arrange alternative transport.
