Racing for a cause

Participants in the 2016 Round Table trolley race at Clearwater Mall will be welcomed with open arms this coming Sunday.

Roodepoort’s Round Table 162i will be hosting its seventh annual trolley race on Sunday, 17 July at Clearwater Mall, in celebration of Mandela Day.

Their chairperson, Riaan Wennick said the event will start at 7am, and as in the past, there are prizes to the value of R10 000 up for grabs. Winners will be categorised as first, second and third position. There will be an award for the best team spirit and the best decorated trolley.

Each team consists of four people – one team member is the pilot, sitting inside a shopping trolley (supplied by Pick n Pay) and the other three team members will push/ race the trolley around a 2,5km demarcated track in the parking lot of the mall.

β€œThe main aim of Round Table is to enjoy fellowship with people from all walks of life,” said Riaan.

It is a fun experience for those who participate in the race. However, the entry fee is R500 per trolley and all profits are donated to the Roodepoort Round Table 162i club’s charity fund. All the funds raised are then equally split between their two main charitable beneficiaries – the Gateway Society, which includes the village and the school, and Matla-a-Bana West Rand, an organisation raising a voice against child abuse.

To register, fill out a registration form and email it to info@roundtable162.co.za or visit their website www.roundtable162.co.za.
