[WIN] Mushrooms an undeniable superfood
It's healthy, it's low in kilojoules and it's great in everything!
Did you know that mushrooms have been used for centuries for their powerful healing benefits?
They have also been identified as a nutrient-rich superfood containing no fat, sugar or salt. The fact that they’re low in kilojoules makes them an ideal ingredient to include in meals if you’re conscious about kilojoule intake.
Raymond Petrowski, the store manager of Food Lover’s Market Krugersdorp, shares some tips on how to store and wash your mushrooms:
• If you’ve purchased pre-packed mushrooms, it’s best to store the mushrooms in the store-bought packaging in your refrigerator.
• If you’ve planted and harvested your own mushrooms, store them in a paper bag or in a damp cloth bag in the refrigerator. This allows you mushrooms to breathe so they’ll stay firm longer.
• To clean your mushrooms, gently remove any excess dirt with a damp paper towel or a soft mushroom brush. Rinse the mushrooms lightly, but do not soak them. Pat dry with a paper towel.
