Off-duty policeman escapes hijacking
Hijacking suspects flee into a nearby field as the off-duty constable returns fire.
The Kagiso Police are investigating a case of attempted murder and hijacking after an off-duty police official had a narrow escape.
The off-duty constable was driving along Impala Road towards Leratong Hospital at 5.30am on 9 July when he was ambushed by unknown suspects.
“When he approached the stop sign at the corner, both of the left-hand windows of his vehicle were smashed and two shots were fired at him,” West Rand Police Cluster spokesperson, Constable Gloria Maswanganye explained.
The constable managed to get out of his vehicle and returned fired, using his service pistol. The suspects suddenly disappeared into the long grass.
He quickly returned to his vehicle and sped off to the Kagiso Police Station to report the matter.
The police are appealing to members of the community who might have information that may lead to the arrest of these suspects to phone the Kagiso Police Station on 011 696 9054/ 9000.
