Today is National Cheesecake Day, not that you need a special day to eat this delicious dessert.
Although many people believe that cheesecake originates from New York, it actually dates back almost 4 000 years, to ancient Greece.
In Greece, cheesecake was considered to be a good source of energy. There is evidence that it was served during the first Olympic games in 776 BC.
Cheesecake was also popular as a wedding cake during these times.
The dessert now has fancy and overly complex variations, and it’s hard to believe that it started off as a simple recipe of flour, wheat, honey and cheese that were formed into a cake and baked.
The recipe may have changed over the years, but this dessert remains an all-round favourite.
