Murder and mob justice mayhem
Police had their hands full dealing with a murder and a mob justice incident.
The weekend kicked off on a busy note, with police responding to two separate murder incidents.
Shortly after lunch time on Friday, 12 August, the police were called to a ditch near the entrance of Munsieville where the body of an unknown man was discovered.
Curious bystanders stood on the bridge to get a glimpse of the cordoned-off scene in the ditch.
It is believed he died in the early hours of the morning after being stabbed multiple times.
Not long after, the police were called to an incident of mob justice in Mindalore.
On arrival in Richardson Street, police found the body of a young man lying in the street.
“It is believed the suspect robbed a female high school pupil of her cellphone. Members of the community then gave chase and cornered him in the street,” said Krugersdorp Police spokesperson, Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale.
A Dowry reaction unit saw the girl crying on the side of the road shortly before 1pm. The patroller pulled over and asked her what had happened. A group of men then ran past him towards Richardson Street, and he gave chase.
By the time he caught up with them, they were assaulting the suspect.
“It appears that community members chased after the suspect, apprehended him, and then allegedly assaulted and killed him. The identity of the deceased is unknown.”
The 17-year-old robbery victim was taken to hospital for further medical attention.
