Alleged rapist arrested in stop and search operation
An alleged rapist was among the successful arrests made by Tarlton Police during the weekend.
Six suspects were arrested during the weekend in connection with various crimes committed in the Tarlton area.
The suspects, aged between 29 and 39 years, were arrested for cases ranging from rape and assault, to possession of dagga and domestic violence.
Among the arrests is that of a 29-year-old suspect, who allegedly raped an 18-year-old woman at Beckeden in Tarlton. He was apprehended by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit.
“It is alleged that the suspect appeared from the bushes next to Plot 32, Beckeden, Tarlton and approached the victim, who was on her way home. He pounced on her wielding a sharp object and allegedly raped her,” said Tarlton Police spokesperson, Constable Lucky Matome.
The arrests were made during stop and search operations in the Tarlton policing precinct.
Tarlton’s station commander, Lieutenant Colonel CP Tsoaedi, applauded the officers for their dedication. She further urged women not to walk alone in secluded areas, especially at night.
All six suspects are expected to make brief appearances before the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court.
