Ex cop gets life for rape of minor
A former Krugersdorp police officer was sentenced to life for raping his daughter.
Local top cop, Lieutenant Peet du Toit’s hard work and cutting edge investigation skills helped put a sexual perpetrator behind bars for life.
A former police officer of Krugersdorp was arrested on a rape and sexual assault charge and the case has been pending since April 2009, however it was successfully concluded in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court on 5 April.
“The incident was initially reported in Pretoria when an eight-year-old girl disclosed sexual abuse to a teacher while they were taught about ‘bad touching’,” Krugersdorp Cluster spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst said.
A case of sexual abuse was registered and Du Toit was appointed the investigating officer.
After numerous interviews were conducted, the victim was evaluated and medically examined and it was established that the victim was repeatedly raped over a period of time.
“The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and although it was first opposed, he was granted bail. In December 2015 the accused was found guilty on two counts which included rape and sexual assault. The court postponed to allow the prosecution and defense to prepare mitigating and aggravating evidence.”
Justice was finally served when the father of the victim, was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape and an additional eight years imprisonment for sexual assault.
Du Toit is relieved that the case has finally concluded and that justice was served. He was elated with the sentence, since the pleas of a minor was heard and answered.
“This sentence makes the SAPS’ efforts all worthwhile,” Du Toit said.
The identity of the former officer may not be revealed in order to protect the identity of the victim who is still a minor, however his name has been logged in the sexual offenses register.
