Did you know? Bite for bite, kiwifruits contain three times more vitamin C than oranges.

This makes them the ideal fruit to eat in winter as they strengthen your immune system and ward off winter colds and flu.

Raymond Petrowski, store manager of Food Lovers Market Krugersdorp gives some helpful tips on how to select and store kiwifruit:

• Look for kiwifruit that are large and plump.

• Place unripe kiwifruit in a brown bag with a ripe fruit such as a banana to ripen until its outer skin yields to gentle poking.

• Ripe fruits give off ethylene, which has an effect on the kiwifruit and speeds up the ripening process.

• Store ripe kiwifruit in the fridge. They will keep for three to five days.
