Celebrate, remember and fight

Cansa West Rand will be hosting its Relay For Life event at Monument High School on 14 October.
There will be stalls and entertainment galore, and the community is urged to enter teams of 10 to 15 participants. The entry fee is R1 000 per team, and all the money raised at the event will benefit Cansa West Rand.
The Cansa Relay For Life is an event that offers everyone in the community the opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. It celebrates the survivors and offers newly diagnosed patients the opportunity to meet and interact with others in the same position. The event also gives patients who are undergoing treatment the chance to share experiences with other patients.
There will also be a luminaria ceremony to honour cancer sufferers. A luminaria is a paper bag containing a lit candle set in some sand, to prevent it falling over. The ceremony will take the form of personally decorated luminaria bags outlining the track. Each bag is made in remembrance of a very special warrior who lost the battle, or in honour of a courageous cancer survivor who is still fighting or who has won the battle against cancer.
