Update: Aggressive cyclist arrested

The cyclist reported to the Krugersdorp Police station yesterday.

Calm has been restored on our roads with the arrest of the cyclist who allegedly attacked a local resident in Muldersdrift on Sunday, 25 September.

According to complaints that were received by the News, the man verbally and physically abused Samantha van der Heever along the Kromdraai Road, north of Muldersdrift when she gently hooted at him.

He left the scene after punching her, but later Samantha’s husband, Gavin, saw him at a local bistro. When Gavin approached the cyclist, he was also attacked. The man, whose identity is known to the News, threw a hot cup of coffee at Gavin and left the bistro.

According to Conserv Security, the man was apprehended on Saturday, 1 October after being recognised when his photo went viral.

Charges were laid at the Krugersdorp Police Station, and it is alleged that the cyclist was released on a warning.

He subsequently reported to the Krugersdorp Police Station on Monday, 3 October, where he met with an investigating officer. The News awaits further correspondence from the police on the matter.
