Elderly man allegedly assaults primary school pupil

The pupil and his four friends were up to mischief when an elderly man allegedly grabbed and assaulted one of them.

A primary school pupil sustained minor injuries to his neck and shoulders after a ticket booth attendant allegedly assaulted him during an event at Laerskool Kenmare.

“According to the preliminary report, the pupil and his four friends were up to mischief near the door of the merry-go-round’s ticket office when the elderly ticket attendant allegedly grabbed and assaulted the pupil,” Oupa Bodibe, acting spokesperson for the Gauteng Department of Education said.

After the fiasco, the pupil’s parents were informed and they immediately took him to a doctor. He was assessed and released immediately. The principal of the school and the Department of Education’s district officials met with the pupil’s parents to discuss the matter.

A follow-up meeting was scheduled with the school principal, the ticket attendant, the School Governing Body chairperson, the parents of the pupil and the district officials. The parties came to the agreement that the attendant would not face criminal charges, but the incident will be recorded and used against him if he should commit the same crime again.

“The pupil is receiving psychological support and the parents have opened a case docket,” Bodibe said.
