Guy Fawkes Night, is it worth the risk?

This not only affects every resident of the community but their pets as well.

On 5 November some will celebrate Guy Fawkes Night, originally known as Gunpowder Treason Day.
Some people may also recognise it as Bonfire Night.

This day marks the anniversary of the discovery of a plot organised by Catholic conspirators to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London in 1605.

In recent years in South Africa it has become illegal to discharge fireworks in back yards for safety and regulatory reasons. Members of the public are urged to purchase fireworks only from registered suppliers who can produce their permits issued by the SAPS. Residents who buy fireworks at shops and discharge them at approved locations do so at their own risk.

To report those who discharge fireworks illegally, call the Metro Police Control Centre on 011 490 1740, or the SAPS Emergency Control Centre on 10111. This not only affects every member of the community, but their pets as well.

Be safe and act within the law!
