Head-on collision victims’ lucky day

"The thing is, when a vehicle is overloaded there's minimal room for the human body to be flung either side to side or out of the vehicle."

The passengers of two mini-bus taxis that collided on Sandpiper Road, Kagiso had a stroke of luck on Monday, 7 November at approximately 8pm when they walked away with only minor injuries after the incident.

It is believed an overloaded blue taxi was speeding and drifted into the the oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with a white taxi.

Once the two vehicles had come to a standstill and paramedics arrived on scene, it was realised that the passengers had only sustained moderate to minor injuries.

Quick Response Service, Netcare 911, ER24 and City of Johannesburg ambulances were all present on the scene and most transported patients to Leratong Hospital for further medical attention.

“The thing is, when a vehicle is overloaded there is minimal room for the human body to be flung either side to side or out of the vehicle,” said a paramedic on scene, “so these passengers actually ‘cushioned’ each other during the collision.”
