The number of missing people has increased over the past years. Here is how you should act if a family member or friend goes missing:

There is no waiting period to report a missing person. When a person goes missing, it is of the utmost importance for the police to fulfill their mandate to serve and protect the citizens of South Africa.

It is very important to report that the person is missing at your nearest police station.

You will have to provide the following information:

• A recent photograph
• A complete description of the missing person
• A description of their clothes last worn
• The person’s last known whereabouts
• Complete and sign a SAPS 55(A) form
• Obtain the investigating officer’s contact details, and forward any additional information that might become available
• If a missing person is found or returns voluntarily, inform the investigating officer immediately
• A SAPS 92 form must be completed to inform the Bureau of Missing Persons that the missing person’s report can be removed from the circulation system

Let’s all work together to keep our friends and families safe.
