Emergency services says not to worry about impending storm

Although weather patterns show that a storm is imminent, a local emergency services employee says residents should not be rattled.

Following the News’ earlier article about a severe storm that is expected to approach the western parts of Gauteng from this afternoon, Krugersdorp’s Emergency Services have contacted the News to inform us that this information might not be accurate.

Initial article: Severe storm approaching western parts of Gauteng

The News spoke to weather forecaster Wayne Venter at the SA Weather Services this morning about the devastating storm that hit the south of Johannesburg, and the East Rand yesterday. He informed us that the stormy weather is not over and that another storm is on its way, heading towards the west.

However, Gerhardt Nieuwoudt from the Krugersdorp Emergency Services has contacted the News to say that residents need not fear.

“Cells are forming from the south-west and the latest weather radar shows that even though a storm is coming, it is nothing compared to what happened yesterday,” Nieuwoudt said.

Nieuwoudt says that their telephones have not stopped ringing since our report went out, and that this is preventing calls about real emergencies from coming through.

“We are ready should a storm break,” he said, “and residents can breathe easy, because we will handle whatever comes our way.”
