This drain obviously needs the water more

Someone is paying the bill for water that is going to waste.

The manager of the Total Service Station on Robert Broom Drive recently contacted the News regarding a water leak next to their premises.

The News decided to investigate and met with the manager, Amanda Bekker, who is furious.

“I’ve reported the leak several times, but it seems that it’s no-one else’s problem, just mine,” said Amanda.

The water allegedly started running down the sidewalk from a hole next to the service station on 20 October.

Amanda phoned the Mogale City Local Municipality and reported the problem.

The municipality said someone would be sent out, but no-one arrived. She then phoned the municipality again, and after being transferred from one person to another several times, eventually got a number for someone who would be able to assist her with the problem. That person then arranged for someone from the municipality to look at the leak.

The conclusion was that the leak is not a municipal problem. After a week of watching the water go to waste, Amanda decided to take matters into her own hands and phoned Total. Total also investigated the problem, and discovered that it is in fact a municipal issue.

“I do not know what to do next as it seems no one can assist me,” said Amanda

South Africa is currently experiencing a massive water shortage and this water is currently running down a drain. What makes things worse is that someone has been paying the bill for water that is going to waste for almost two months now.

The News contacted the local ward councillor about the problem and was referred to the Mayor’s office, which in turn referred us to Mogale’s Department of Water Affairs. Once comment has been received, an update will be published.
